Long before the digital hearing aid was heard of, hearing aids of the analog type were used. They have been around for almost two centuries. Both Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Alva Edison have made a difference to the world of communication technology which in turn helped in the design and use of hearing aids. The earliest of these devices were made in the shape of a trumpet, and have been evolving ever since.
The most recent form of this device which has overtaken all the other earlier forms is the digital hearing aid. It was developed first in the 1990s and has taken over the market for hearing aids because of its features of adjustable volume (sound input) and relatively better design. It has the advantage of being miniscule in size compared to their earlier counterparts and better efficient than them at the same time.
Even better is the fact that a digital hearing aid can treat deafness ranging from mild to severe – that is complete loss of hearing. This versatile device now can be tweaked to suit different environments – that is to say, noisy to quiet, by controlling the amplification of sound. While some have to be adjusted manually, the smarter versions have the ability to auto-adjust according to environment. The forms in use now have the amazing capability of filtering noise to a great extent, thus improving the comfort of the user.
With the increase in the use of hearing aid equipment, it is appropriate that innovations such the digital hearing aid make it a more soothing experience for the wearer, while scoring high on the matter of efficiency and effectiveness.
